Most of the cows and calves are out to grass but have plenty of shade and shelter. Stuart’s handful of ‘Dalesbred’ sheep are clipped and their lambs are doing well.

 We have enabled wheelchair users, other disabled guests, families and able-bodied people to enjoy a comfortable holiday here at Mitchelland Farm Cumbria for over 29 years. ‘First Light’ cottage now has a simple ceiling-track hoist which seems to help the carer transfer guests with less mobility. A Mobile Hoist is still available.

Guests enjoy watching wildlife, especially birds, from the comfort and tranquility of the self-catering Log-Cottages on this small working farm near Bowness-on-Windermere.

Our two cottages have grass and wild-flower roofs. They are very spacious and sleep four. Both have a house bathroom as well as a large wet-room en-suite to the twin bedroom (one of the single beds is a Hi-Lo adjustable, profile bed) making life easier, independent wheelchair users love the open plan layout in the living area with the kitchen worktops at different heights. Everyone enjoys the luxury of our Electric Riser/Recliner chairs with open views over farmland and fell. Bird lovers inform us the bird variety has increased probably due to extra hedgerows.

Our semi-hardy beef-cows produce us good hardy calves and most of the year live out in the fields and wooded fell area, enjoying some winter sunshine between showers when the youngsters run under the trees for protection, only coming into the cow-shed to calve. The sheep are out all year.
